Tercer Dia Continuado: Exploramos el centro!

Bah! It's almost 1:00 am and I'm not in bed yet! No wonder I get so sleepy around 1:00 pm. >_< Today after our siesta we all went back to the Plaza de Cervantes to have a mini walking tour of the Centro of Alcala. In one of the buildings, I found this add on the cover page of a newspaper. It's an advertisement for insurance, but if you just read the really bold part and look at the adorable stuff hedgehog, you might fall in love with it, too, just as I did, and steal a bunch of copies for yourself!

In that same building we encountered an abstract looking painting on the ceiling. Upon further investigation, though, we realized it wasn't abstract, but rather a curious painting of a fetus... weird...

Below is the Plaza de San Diego. The rose bushes reminded me of Portland. :) The plaza is really pretty and old and has a cute little map of the city that is 3D and with braille for blind people! So cool.

A block away from Plaza de San Diego was a convent in which nuns (monjas) still live to this day. They are of a certain denomination in which they are not allowed to interact with the outside world nor leave their convent. The problem is, they earn money by making and selling almond candy. How do they do this, we asked? Cristina, our CIEE director, demonstrated: there is a little rotating window type thing where you put your money and it has little holes so you can knock and place your order, they spin it around once to take your money, give you change, and place your candy on the shelf, then spin it around to you. It was pretty amazing and pretty hilarious at the same time. We totally saw the nun peaking at all 20 of us trying not to giggle and taking pictures! The picture below is Cristina catching the nun staring at us through the peep hole!

Below is a MAILBOX! Omg it's adorable. I bought a bunch of postcards today, and I'm totally going to choose that mailbox to send them through!

Alcala is known for their storks. They're EVERYWHERE and they're HUGE. I'm not sure if you realize this or not, but stork nests are ridiculous structures build as high up as the birds seem able to fly. Here was a perfect example of such a feat of bird architecture!!

Plaza de Bernarda (I think?) was gorgeous, as you can see below!

This is the statue of Cervantes in the Plaza de Cervantes, as well as a better view of the Plaza right in front of my University. ^_^ Yay! Alcala is the home to Cervantes and I'm planning on taking a tour of his house later this week or next week which is only a few blocks from the Plaza.

As it turns out, Spain may not have cupcakes, but they do have doughnuts. Thank GOODNESS! ^_^

I live next to a McDonald's and there's one right next to the University of Alcala. Their menu seems to be a bit different... who knew Spanish McDonalds' had 1 euro onion rings?! Haha!

That's all for today! Bed time!

XOXO
